Neurophysiologic Features Reflecting Brain Injury During Pediatric ECMO Support

A new prospective study, co-authored by Brian Appavu MD, challenges current practice. While a third of pediatric ECMO patients in the study developed brain injury, three monitoring parameters were able to predict it with a high degree of accuracy. The combination of seizure burden, EEG asymmetry and transcranial Doppler findings outperformed traditional assessments in sedated patients.
