Factors That Impact SCPC Outcomes
A recent review led by Arash Sabati, MD, a cardiologist with Phoenix Children's, explores the superior cavopulmonary connection (SCPC), a key procedure for children with.
The review found that outcomes are influenced by several factors, including timing of surgery, growth and underlying conditions. While a younger age at surgery does not reduce transplant-free survival, it may increase length of stay. Poor weight gain and issues such as valve regurgitation or vessel obstruction can also affect outcomes.
The authors emphasize the importance of a thorough pre-operative evaluation to identify and address these factors, helping care teams tailor treatment and improve results for each patient.
